Protection

In a new series aimed at informing the common reader about the innovation of the Japanese people, I would like to present to you more information about some of the finer, and lesser known (or understood?), Japanese inventions. I'll leave it to you to decide if necessity (which usually proceeds invention) was considered...

bed condom (n): The strange looking sheet that your comforter is inserted into before getting into a bed in a hotel room. The bed condom ensures that no part of your body, at any time, touches the comforter, thus eliminating the need for washing by hotel staff between use. The bed condom in my hotel last night was incredibly starchy and uncomfortable.

The name reminded me of the safe sex love scene between Leslie Nielsen and Priscilla Presley in the movie Naked Gun 33 1/3.........
but I have a warped sense of humor!!

Doesn't sound comfortable

How do you find this stuff? I'm beginning to think you're reading the Japanese version of Ripley's Believe It or Not and then you go and take pictures of it.

Well, I have another story about "bed condom", so here's my version. I checked into a very nice hotel during a business trip. As I pulled down the covers, out flew a condom (okay, it was in the wrapper). Then I had to ask myself how it got into a freshly made bed. Forget asking myself, I immediately asked the general manager (who was quite amazed by my story, so I offered to show him the condom). Fresh linens were whisked onto my bed, and the room was comped.
How's that for an AB true story ??
